This year’s project of Wolfgang Schnurr and Palis Advisory GmbH is entitled “Wall-to-Wall“. On the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain, new fences and barriers mark the order of the day in many places, thus signalling new forms of divisions. It is at this point that the art project with weaving work by Doerte Weber comes to the fore.

The art works displayed in Neukölln originate from exhibitions which take up the discussion of the border wall between Texas and Mexico. The works have previously been shown directly at the border where the artist in cooperation with the National Butterfly Center set up a wall of woven plastic panels. In her work the artist visualises the political development around the themes of migration and separation that can be observed in many parts of the world.

With her art Doerte Weber seeks to counteract these tendencies by focussing on the community spirit and of people thereby opening up a space which hold the potential for a different future. To underscore the idea of how walls can be opened Doerte Weber will cut strips of the wall into pieces for distribution on Sunday, 16th June 2019 from 3 p.m. onwards.

The exhibition is part of a series of art works ‘Bridging the Gap‘, an initiative by Wolfgang Schnurr and Palis Advisory GmbH. The project understands art as a medium which allows for changing perspectives and opens up opportunities for dialogue.
